After many months of planning and drawing its great to finally see a project getting built. This new cottage on a small garden site of a grade II listed farmhouse in East Sussex updates the traditional barn detailing of the area. The builders Watts Construction have done a fantastic job of the cladding and roof detailing where the corner posts, trims and eaves all tuck in and over each other to provide good weathering and to protect the end grain. The corners of older cottages have over time got knocked off and smoothed back whereas new build houses can sometimes feel quite – well, crisp and new!- so internally we have softened the lines around the walls, ceilings and openings with curved corners and reveals. Looking forward to seeing the finished results in July when it is ready to be lived in.
