Going Dutch!- first international commission working on a rather lovely traditional townhouse in the canal district of Amsterdam.  It is a gorgeous period property over 4 long thin floors with crazy Dutch ladders stairs, romantic loft and 2 person coffee roof terrace.  It is bright and open but has lost some of the character internally over recent renovations.  I have been looking at turning it back into a family home with the need once again for a more traditional layout, more rooms and plenty of storage, all without loosing too much of the open plan feel and well lit interiors.  We are using large built in storage spaces and sliding doors to manage the clutter of family life and make up the new rooms (quite a challenge when the house is not wide enough for conventional corridors!) and finding apace to accommodate a full family kitchen, home office, playroom and spare bedroom.  Looking forward to more trips to town to check progress in the new year as Zwarte Kat Architecten!
